Being able to distil complex research into a clear, succinct pitch is an essential skill for every PhD candidate. Whether you are communicating your work to collaborators beyond your discipline, disseminating your research outcomes, or engaging with the media about your project, the ability to engage a nonspecialist audience is key to elevating your research impact.
This practical, interactive workshop is designed to help doctoral researchers communicate with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
During the session, we will analyse examples from successful 3MT presentations and TED Talks to understand how expert communicators translate cutting-edge ideas into accessible, memorable speeches. Together, we will unpack the strategies that make audiences pay attention — from narrative structure and accessible language, to effective presence and vocal delivery.
Participants will take part in guided activities to practise simplifying complex concepts, crafting strong hooks, and articulating the broader significance of their research. You will also…
